Republicans just don’t get it. ”The rape thing” is a pretty big deal and not something to be taken lightly. But separate from this congressional candidate’s obvious detachment from women’s issues … how is this man going to say with a straight face that the reason he’s against rape victims having the option to have an abortion is because #1 – he has a friend who was raped, kept the baby and then gave it up for adoption and #2 – he doesn’t want women inflecting more “violence” against their own bodies. Well now I’ve heard it all.

The Snohomish County councilman made the comments during a weekend fundraising appearance in the Puget Sound city of Everett, north of Seattle, that was captured in a recording released on Wednesday by the liberal activist group Fuse Washington.
Long known as an opponent of abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, Koster was asked if there were any circumstances under which he would approve of terminating a pregnancy.
