You don’t have to have a PhD to understand what is going on here. Republicans have BLOCKED time and time again any bill that will eliminate loopholes for the rich like the “carried interest” rule that allow people like Mitt Romney the ability to make tens of millions and pay a lower tax rate than you. And yet – when Republicans talk about “tax fairness” – their solution is to “broaden the base” i.e. make sure poor people pay more in taxes. And yes – the poor do pay taxes. But Republicans only want to focus on the INCOME tax but they don’t want to talk about increasing the cap on the payroll tax or increasing the capital gains tax or taxing all incomes the same. The Republican solution to America’s tax problem is simple – TAX THE POOR – cut taxes for the rich. It’s a huge scam.
