“So the truncated version of the Obama quote is insanely misleading. At best, it’ll only appear in $10.4 million or so of TV ads.”
~Dave Weigel
Breaking News: Romney posts misleading ad </sarcasm>. And yet – one more ad from the Romney campaign splicing out words from President Obama. This ad says more about how little he thinks of you than it does about how much he thinks of himself. I find it offensive.
President Obama can be heard on the video saying:
Just like we’ve tried their plan, we tried our plan — and it worked. That’s the difference. That’s the choice in this election. That’s why I’m running for a second term.
But what did he ACTUALLY say?
I’ll cut out government spending that’s not working, that we can’t afford, but I’m also going to ask anybody making over $250,000 a year to go back to the tax rates they were paying under Bill Clinton, back when our economy created 23 million new jobs, the biggest budget surplus in history and everybody did well. Just like we’ve tried their plan, we tried our plan — and it worked. That’s the difference. That’s the choice in this election. That’s why I’m running for a second term.
O.o. So when Obama says … “we tried OUR plan” – he means … the Democrat plan … he means specifically the Democrat plan under Bill Clinton when they raised taxes on the wealthy. It looks like Romney doesn’t think he can win on the substance of things …. the only way to win is to mislead what he believes are the “useful idiots”.
And of course there was Mitt Romney’s OTHER recent ad where he literally cropped out parts of Obama’s speech to make it have a new meaning. Funny thing though – the guy in the commercial saying “I didn’t build that” … he received almost $1 million from government contracts. Irony is so cruel.
We wrote about that falsification HERE.
Then there was this other surrogate who spoke on behalf of Romney as a “small business owner” … turns out most of her company’s revenue comes from government contracts. NPR has the story HERE:
Rebecca Smith owns a Tampa, Fla., construction-management firm that does a lot of work overseeing the building of schools and jails, and other projects for state and local governments.
But even though much of her firm’s $80 million in annual revenue comes from contracts with government agencies, she says she was “disgusted” by President Obama’s thesis that government had a significant role in her business achievements.
And as President Obama said originally before his words were cropped to fit some fake narrative that doesn’t exist … we’re all in this together. We can’t do it alone. He actually said:
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
In other words – don’t complain about paying a little bit more in taxes if you’re making $1 million a year because you wouldn’t have been able to do that unless everyone contributed to it in some capacity. Ethiopia doesn’t have many millionaires even if it is a libertarian paradise.
