Republicans know that their policies towards the Latino community are HORRENDOUS. They have said…if “WE LOSE HISPANICS THIS BAD, WE LOSE THE WHOLE ELECTION. PERIOD.“
But there is a reason that Latinos don’t support the Republican party…they have great reasons (as in more than one). The Republicans are targeting them…time and time and time again. They’re treating Latinos as 2nd class citizens … Republicans have been actively telling the Latino community to go f#ck themselves; the Democrats just neglect and placate them … but they don’t actively look for brown skinned targets. For a compilation of the positions that Republicans are taking that is pushing Latinos away – read “Latinos Don’t Like Pachyderms“.
NBC First Read reports Obama Leads Big With Latinos:
In this survey, Obama holds a 34-point lead over Romney among registered Latino voters, 61 to 27 percent. In 2008, according to the exit polls, Obama defeated McCain among this key voting bloc, 67 to 31 percent.
In addition, Obama’s approval rating among all Latino adults stands at 61 percent (compared with 48 percent of all Americans in the new NBC/WSJ poll), and approval of his handling of the economy is at 54 percent (versus 43 percent overall).
Meanwhile, Romney is struggling with Latinos, the poll shows. Just 26 percent view him positively, while 35 percent see him in a negative light. By comparison, Obama’s positive/negative score among Latinos is 58/23 percent.
What’s more, this demographic group is more optimistic about the economy and the nation’s direction than the general population. Forty percent of Latinos believe the country is headed in the right direction (versus 33 percent of all Americans in the NBC/WSJ poll), and 46 percent of them say what they’ve read and heard recently makes them feel more optimistic about the economy (versus 42 percent).
Nearly 3 weeks ago – the IACWE community had a very visceral debate about my article: “Minorities Need to Step Up or Stop Complaining”. I’ve written extensively about the various ways in which politicians – particularly conservatives – have gone to great lengths to minimize the importance of your vote. You can find just a sample of that HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. And while the agenda to disenfranchise likely Democratic voters i.e. minorities is real … we can’t wait on Peter Pan or Superman to come to our rescue. It’s going to take owning the moment and taking action.
Are you registered to vote? Have you talked to your friends about registering to vote? Do you know what the final date is to register to vote? Do you have the appropriate information needed in order to register to vote?
Unless you have determined that you have been kicked off the voter rolls because of political malfeasance like in Florida (source)….and THEN actually called your state representative, local news station, wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper, marched in protest, stormed into the governor’s office or something similar…chances are you probably don’t care about your right to vote. Chances are it’s not important to you. And that’s the problem.
