“What I think people want to make sure of, though, is you’re not writing off a big chunk of the country. This is a big country… And people disagree a lot, but one thing I’ve never tried to do, and I think none of us can do in public office, is suggest that because someone doesn’t agree with me that they’re victims or they’re unpatriotic.”
~President Obama
Obama goes on Letterman tonight and is asked about the Mitt Romney 47% undercover video. Funny moment about Dave naked; classic response.
His response is Presidential. First rate. Class act. Romney can’t hold this guy’s jock. And even though this is going to be a relatively close election more than likely … the notion that even 35% or 30% or 25% of Americans would vote for Mitt Romney after his disaster of a campaign says everything we need to know about the echo chamber conservatives are living in.
I talked with a couple of very nice older Republicans today on a plane ride back home – husband and wife … salt of the earth kind of people. But the woman was convinced that Obama was anti-American. She asked me if I saw “that movie” by which she was referring to 2016. I informed her that it was thoroughly debunked and that we really need to consider any movie coming out during an election on the person running as propaganda.
Well – of course … my comments weren’t going to convince her. She said he was anti-American and I suspect she felt that way before she saw the movie … that’s why she watched the movie. I told her that if he is a socialist – he’s the worst socialist in history since the stock market rebounded from under 7,000 to almost 14k. Her eyes glazed.
I don’t know what you can tell a person to convince them to reevaluate their worldview but most of us are locked in to our pre-existing ideology. The biggest irony of course is she’s a church going woman who doesn’t believe we should be helping the poor. I told her that I thought we should … and I’m not the one with god as my guiding light. I wonder about when that moment actually came when a majority of church going, bible toting, god fearing Christians started to believe in trickle down economics and stopped believing in helping the poor. That’s confounding.
By the way – after his taping with Letterman – Obama had a $40,000 per ticket fundraiser hosted by Beyonce and Jay-Z in Manhattan while he was there. More on that HERE:
When he took the stage, Mr. Obama said, “To Jay and Bey, thank you for your friendship.” He said his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Malia and Sasha, were annoyed that he got to spend the evening with the glittery couple. Beyoncé, he said, was a role model to his girls, while Mr. Obama said he felt a sense of kinship with Jay-Z because, he said, “we both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are.”
