“I don’t know how [they] come up with these ideas…rape is rape. It is a crime. These various distinctions about rape don’t make too much sense to me, don’t make any sense to me.”
~President Obama
President Obama goes on Jay Leno and was asked about the now famous comment that women who get pregnant from rape are blessed with a “gift from god” and is “something god intended to happen”; you can read all about that HERE.
This isn’t a Richard Mourdock problem or a Todd Akin problem … this is a REPUBLICAN problem. If a woman gets raped … she has no control as to whether or not the rapist chooses to use a condom; spoiler alert – it’s unlikely. Republicans are for smaller government unless it means investigating what’s going on with women’s lady parts. They’re for protecting the life of the child until the child is born … and then its “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps”. Makes perfect sense.
I’ve shared this before but knowledge is fundamental; here are 5 reasons why women should never vote Republican:
#1 – The GOP party platform this year does not allow for women to get abortions when they are victims of rape or incest. We wrote about that HERE; from their actual platform:
Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.
#2 – On July 31st – 203 Republicans voted to make abortion illegal to victims of rape or incest HERE.
#3 – Conservatives were against funding an extension on $455 million in funding the Violence Against Women Act for rape crisis centers and assistance for victims of domestic violence HERE. They only supported it eventually under political pressure because it would make them look as extreme as they are.
#4 – Paul Ryan called rape a “method of conception” recently; you can read about HERE.
#5 – Paul Ryan and Todd Akin co-sponsored a bill limiting federal funding for abortions to victims of “forcible rape” was rated TRUE by Politifact; article HERE.
