Finally – some sanity. It’s only one poll and one poll does not a trend make; however – I do find the vast majority of people that I speak to are wholly against America getting involved in a war with Iran if Israel attacks them. Despite American support for Israel – it would appear that we understand that our support of Israel is not unconditional.
You can find the source HERE; some main points of the poll:
- 69% of Americans prefer diplomacy with Iran including a majority of Republicans
- If Israel did strike Iran – 46% of Americans would prefer a neutral stance; 34% of Americans would prefer that we discourage an Israeli strike
- Only 22% of Americans believe that America would attack Iran as well if Israel attacked Iran
- 88% of Americans believe that Iran is trying to produce nuclear capability of some sort
- 62% of Americans believe that Iran would use nuclear weapons against Israel if it had them
Of course – in Israel – a poll was taken by Haaretz and 58% of Israelis do not want to take unilateral action against Iran either. We’ve written about that HERE.
Here is MSNBC sharing the results of their poll from a month ago relating to the same question…similar results:
