The above chart is the “cumulative melting index” detailed and analyzed by Professor Marco Tedesco who is funded by NASA and the National Science Foundation. This chart is measuring the rate at which ice is melting in Greenland; as you can see – the ice is melting at their highest rates in over 30 years. It is just ONE MORE piece of evidence that man made climate change is real; if you don’t believe that – you’re the same type of sucker who believed cigarette companies in the 50′s that there was simply no evidence that smoking caused cancer. Don’t be a sucker – use your brain.
You can see the science of the chart HERE.
Reuters expands on the melting of the arctic sea ice – not just Greenland – HERE:
Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean is likely to shrink to a record small size sometime next week, and then keep on melting, a scientist at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said on Monday.
“A new daily record … would be likely by the end of August,” said Ted Scambos, lead scientist at the data center, which monitors ice in the Arctic and elsewhere. “Chances are it will cross the previous record while we’re still in sea ice retreat.”
The amount of sea ice in the Arctic is important because this region is a potent global weather-maker, sometimes characterized as the world’s air conditioner. This year, the loss of sea ice in the Arctic has suggested a possible opening of the Northwest Passage north of Canada and Alaska and the Northern Sea Route by Europe and Siberia.
As parts of the Arctic melted, 2012 also set records for heat and drought in much of the Northern Hemisphere temperate zone, especially the continental United States.
Media Matters explains that not only is this a big deal … but no one in major media is talking about HERE:
These developments are concerning not only because they signify a warming climate, but because they further accelerate global sea level rise, which threatens coastal ecosystems and populations. Last year NASA reported that “the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are losing mass at an accelerating pace” and “overtaking ice loss from Earth’s mountain glaciers and ice caps to become the dominant contributor to global sea level rise, much sooner than model forecasts have predicted.”
Despite the implications of Tedesco’s new findings for our changing climate and our communities, not one of the major broadcast (ABC, CBS, NBC), cable (CNN, Fox News, MSNBC) or print (Associated Press, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal) outlets have covered the report.*
We’ve written about this before … if you are unmoved by 97% of Greeland’s ice areas melting at significantly higher rates than anything in modern history … you can read some of these facts:
Dr. James Hansen (NASA) said, “The main thing is just to look at the statistics and see that the change is too large to be natural.” HERE.
Dr. Muller who is funded by the Koch Brothers says, “Humans are almost entirely the cause” HERE.
NOAA says, “The odds of this occurring randomly is 1 in 1,594,323.“ HERE.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) made up of 2,500 scientists in 130 countries says, “Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 (379ppm) and CH4 (1774ppb) in 2005 exceed by far the natural range over the last 650,000 years.” HERE.
ScienceNOW says, “And the upper ocean has warmed so much in the past 50 years that its added heat would be enough to warm the lower atmosphere by about 36°C (thankfully a physically impossible feat).” HERE.
And if you still don’t believe that climate change is man made … you need to reconsider how willing you are to evaluate facts and if you really trust science or if you trust what you hear on Fox News.
