“I mean, this is a guy who admitted to cocaine use, had a sweetheart deal with his house in Chicago, and was associated and worked with Rod Blagojevich to get Valerie Jarrett appointed to the Senate. The bottom line is there’ll be counterattacks.”
~Romney adviser
They say the gloves are coming off. But – here’s what you need to know … the Romney campaign is trying to do EVERYTHING it can to shake this trickle of stories about Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital and the even more damaging stories about Romney’s tax avoidance schemes using offshore shelters … and the line that delineates the two huge stories.
They do NOT want you talking about how Romney’s IRA locked in an offshore bank account has grown to as much as $100 million (source).
They do not want you to know when he left Bain Capital using some of his tax returns as proof because then Americans would hear more stories about Romney’s time at Bain Capital when he was the CEO, Chairman and the lone shareholder … stories like Bloomberg: “Romney privatized the gains and socialized the losses”.
They really, really don’t want to talk about this stuff. It reminds me of the time when President George W. Bush found himself in hot water politically … and to change up the story line – they said “We’re going to MARS.” That reminds me of this hilarious skit from Dave Chappelle; “Mars Bitches!“. So when you read stories like what’s below – keep it all in context. And that’s got to make someone wonder – how many dead bodies are in these tax returns?
So … they decide to “leak” some of their plans on how they’re going to retaliate against the President’s charges. This unnamed adviser didn’t accidentally say this. That means – Romney wants to talk about these issues. Buzzfeed reports HERE:
“I mean, this is a guy who admitted to cocaine use, had a sweetheart deal with his house in Chicago, and was associated and worked with Rod Blagojevich to get Valerie Jarrett appointed to the Senate,” the adviser said. “The bottom line is there’ll be counterattacks.”
The reference to Obama’s past drug use seems to suggest that former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu wasn’t going off-script after all when he dinged the president for spending “his early years in Hawaii smoking something” during a Tuesday morning Fox News appearance.
Returning fire with personal attacks on Obama offers both emotional satisfaction to Romney and many Republicans, and an answer of sorts to relentless Democratic attacks on Romney’s time as an executive. It has so far failed, however, to quiet the growing, bipartisan chorus of voices demanding Romney release more of his personal tax returns. Obama campaign officials privately admit that the Republican has, at times, been effective in beating down attacks on his business record — but they’ve yet to see a way out on the tax issue.
The “reference” yesterday by New Hampshire John Sununu can be read HERE; this is a concerted effort now:
SUNUNU: This guy doesn’t understand how to create jobs. So there is no surprise — there should be because of that statement no surprise on why he failed so miserably over the last four years, in terms of job creation. He has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia, and, frankly, when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago.
In addition to wanting to discuss President Obama’s teenage drug use – he also called President Obama “unAmerican” … an often repeated line by the Republican side. He’s part of the “the other” … they whisper about his Muslim leanings … born in Kenya … Manchurian candidate. You’re going to hear all of that and most of it – if not all – will be coming from somewhere else other than Romney. Because even though he’s giving the head nod to Karl Rove and the billionaires who fund him … he doesn’t want his fingerprints on any of this. This campaign is going to be very ugly.
