If you didn’t hear about the huge news that broke yesterday regarding Romney’s behind closed doors private comments to a room full of big money donors and his thoughts that 47% of Americans were victims who felt healthcare, food and housing were entitlements … you need to read about that HERE.
In the video above – he is asked by a reporter and I’m paraphrasing here:
Q – What did you mean when you said 47% of Americans act like victims and don’t take responsibility for themselves.
Notice that he doesn’t explain what he meant and he doesn’t say that he disagreed with any of his prior statements. He just says it “wasn’t elegantly stated” and it was “off the cuff”. Then he says “it is a message which I’m going to carry and continue to carry” because he basically agrees with the general message. He genuinely believes what he said he just wished that he phrased it differently. How many ways can you politely say that 150 million Americans are welfare queens who are only voting for President Obama because they are dependent on government services. How many polite ways can you say that people feel entitled to eat and to take their kid to the hospital even when they’re unemployed.
Romney did not walk away from anything he said whatsoever. He actually believes what he said.
Mitt said this during his press conference:
“Frankly, my discussion about lowering taxes isn’t as attractive to them and therefore I’m not likely to draw them into my campaign as those in the middle.”
But that’s not true at all. Americans pay all kinds of taxes. If he wants to appeal to the 47% of Americans who don’t pay income taxes – he can appeal to them by reducing payroll taxes which are a federal tax that make up 1/3 of the government’s revenues and he can make up those taxes in other places in order not to negatively affect Social Security and Medicare. He wouldn’t do that because he already feels the bottom 47% don’t pay enough in taxes.
And then there is how various news organizations have responded to the breaking news. This is what most people either saw today or will see tomorrow regarding Romney’s belief that 47% of Americans feel entitled, are victims and are dependent on government. That’s like 150 million people.
