Romney’s campaign is so desperate to not talk about Bain that they trotted out former George H. W. Bush chief of staff John Sununu to attack the president as a pothead foreigner who doesn’t have a clue about creating jobs and needs to ”learn how to be an American.”
On Tuesday morning, John Sununu went on Fox News and argued that President Obama did not have the requisite business experience to create jobs because he was “smoking something” in Hawaii:
SUNUNU: This guy doesn’t understand how to create jobs. So there is no surprise — there should be because of that statement no surprise on why he failed so miserably over the last four years, in terms of job creation. He has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia, and, frankly, when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago.

The Romney Campaign has officially gone off the deep end. It’s funny that Sununu is suggesting that Obama doesn’t know how to create jobs when it has been Obama who has actually created more private sector jobs in the last two and a half years than George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush in their 12 combined years (data here). All this ridiculous talk really doesn’t have anything to do with substance…but instead, it has everything to do with Romney’s camp doing everything in its power to distract from the Bain and tax return questions swirling around their candidate. Obviously Romney’s campaign is trying to throw everything including the kitchen sink at Obama…this is going to get even uglier as we get closer to November.
