America isn’t perfect…but at least women can drive. I know that’s a low bar, but it doesn’t get more oppressive and regressive than having two sets of rights for human beings simply because one has a penis and the other has a vagina. The extremes of every religion have problems and Islam is no different. Unfortunately – in Saudi Arabia…this isn’t the fringe – this is the NORM. If a woman is caught driving in Saudi Arabia, she either goes to jail or receives lashes. Says the Guardian:
But by framing a campaign in such a compliant manner, one instantly falls subject to the values that are being challenged. It is a catch-22. For a woman to rebel against an entire system will discredit her as an outsider, as a disreputable dropout from mainstream society. But to attempt piecemeal reform from within, the way Sharif et al have done, lays them open to smears on family name and honour that are so potent and discouraging.

But…the Saudi’s have analyzed this and their report was INSANE. This is what they said would happen if women could drive:
Now, one of their number – well-known academic Kamal Subhi – has presented a new report to the country’s legislative assembly, the Shura.
The aim was to get it to drop plans to reconsider the ban.
The report contains graphic warnings that letting women drive would increase prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.
