I thought of this particular segment of Fight Club when I heard James Carter talking to Chris Matthews on Hardball about who potentially produced the now infamous Romney secret video. I had always presumed that there was some great intelligence work going on by the Obama campaign or their SuperPAC wherein an Obama operative pretended to be a Romney supporter in order to get some dirt that could be damaging.
And that could still be true. That would be Machiavellian, both sides are capable of doing that and politics is a no holds barred enterprise. But when I watched James Carter – he didn’t appear to be particularly comfortable in the interview. For anyone who is familiar with neuro-linguistics … I would say simply by his eye movements that he’s telling the truth. Then when you look at the beginning of the full video HERE – it certainly appears that it came from a staff member.
Back to the Fight Club moment … these people depend on a group of people whom they must trust to do their chores and odds and ends. When I say “these people” – I’m not referring to Mitt Romney specifically – I’m referring to the ultra-wealthy class who have multiple homes with staff. These people depend on the working class and there is something very frightening to be a billionaire with staff who you don’t think you can trust. We’re not their monkeys. We mow their lawns, cook their food, watch their kids …
There used to be a social contract; that contract has evaporated as if it were written with invisible ink. So – the deal’s off … today it is a leaked video tape of Romney … tomorrow – who knows what will show up for the next guy.
ABC explains the exchange HERE:
James Carter IV, an Atlanta-based Democratic opposition researcher and the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter said it would be “fair to assume that” the person who filmed Romney was not one of the paying guests at the candidate’s $50,000-a-plate fundraiser in Boca Raton on May 17.
The angle of the hidden camera shows Romney from his left side and the recording device appears to be place somewhere on a table that wait staff are seen using to deposit napkins and decanters of red wine. In the foreground, several donors sit at a table listening to Romney speak at the front of the room.

[...] may not be surprised that I’ve already written my response to that in “the people you are after are the people you depend on , we cook your meals…”. If that isn’t subtle enough – my response might sound something like “Thanks [...]
