This is something out of the twilight zone; Republicans talk about being the party of “smaller goverment”. I would like to understand how the Republican party squares their belief system of limited, less intrusive government with this news being reported by the Associate Press:
A bill nearing passage in the Republican-led Legislature allows all employers, not just religious institutions, to opt out of providing contraceptive coverage when doing so would violate their religious or moral beliefs.
When a female worker uses birth control pills, which can be used to treat a number of medical conditions, the bill would allow an employer who opted out to require her to reveal what she was taking it for in order to get reimbursed.
So – any employer can refuse to pay for a woman to have birth control unless she is able to submit a reason that the business judges as an appropriate for them to decide to reimburse her; I’m sure most women won’t mind telling their employer about something as personal as their sex life or maybe even a health condition that an employer can then potentially discriminate against her for <sarcasm/>. This is something that you would expect to hear from the 1950′s; unfortunately – there is a constant barrage against women from the GOP.
We reported yesterday on another issue that seems so crazy…you would think it was a story from the Onion: Conservatives Lining Up Against the “Violence Against Women Act”. You can find articles on IACWE that deal with the Republican war on contraception HERE.

[...] right to limit women’s access to contraception on their health insurance; we wrote about that HERE before it [...]
