“I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections. But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it.”
~Billionaire Sheldon Adelson
This should really concern you. This is why having so much money concentrated in the hands of a few combined with unlimited donation capabilities looks like. When a person as wealthy as Sheldon Adelson decides to put in $100 million … it’s just not a big deal for him financially. What better way to use your money than to influence what the President and Congress do? It’s absolutely corrupting.
Forbes reports on Sheldon Adelson’s donations this cycle HERE:
Adelson, who has built Las Vegas Sands into an global casino empire, will do “whatever it takes” to defeat Obama, this source says. And given that Adelson is worth $24.9 billion–and told Forbes in a recent rare interview about his political giving that he had been willing to donate as much as $100 million to his initial presidential preference, Newt Gingrich–that “limitless” description telegraphs potential nine-digit support of Romney.
Adelson, this source continues, believes that “no price is too high” to protect the U.S. from what he sees as Obama’s “socialization” of America, as well as securing the safety of Israel. He added that Adelson, 78, considers this to be the most important election of his lifetime.
Adelson is not a social conservative. I’m sure he’s probably very likable and in many ways I appreciate his openness about what he is doing. Having said that – for all of his concerns about “socialism” under President Obama which are highly misguided and laughable frankly … he really is a one issue voter. Sheldon Adelson has spent hundreds of millions to help the country of Israel. He single handedly funded Newt Gingrich’s campaign because Gingrich continued his pro-Israel, anti-Palestine rhetoric … and recently – he had the chance to meet with Mitt Romney for an hour in private. Adelson wants Israel to continue to receive American taxpayer money … he wants to see Israel take ALL of the land that it feels it deserves. He is a proud Zionist.
So – now Mitt Romney is going to have 100 million reasons to ensure his policy regarding Israel is extremely right wing … extremely in support of the Israeli agenda. When it comes to policies that are in the best interests of the American people vs. the policies that are going to benefit the Israeli people … the Israeli people are going to win and Americans will continue to fund Israel’s vibrant socialism for their society (oh great irony) and the horrific oppression of Palestinians.
You can read a profile on Sheldon Adelson with video that I personally find very fascinating HERE:
“I am not an Israeli. The uniform I wore unfortunately was not an Israeli uniform, it was an American uniform…All we care about is being good Zionists, being good citizens of Israel, because even though I’m not Israeli born – Israel is in my heart.”
