The world is capable of doing great things. I love how much more interconnected we are as a human race than ever before in history. I’m able to develop a profound interest and bond with people with someone on the other side of the world whom I’ve never even met. We’re able to share pictures and video and life stories in real time. Despite all of the challenges we see economically right now … there is reason to be optimistic.
Fareed Zakaria points out something pretty important HERE:
The world we live in is, first of all, at peace — profoundly at peace. The richest countries of the world are not in geopolitical competition with one another, fighting wars, proxy wars, or even engaging in arms races or “cold wars.”
This is a historical rarity. You would have to go back hundreds of years to find a similar period of great power peace.
The world is innovating at a rapid pace never seen in the history of the world. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in such a short time. And while we have major issues to address … our challenges are not insurmountable. The question is simple in my mind … will be pick leaders who will bring us backwards or leaders who will take us forward. And despite the current pessimism … our children’s generation will have it better than ours and so on and so forth. As long as we wish it to be so.
