You really need to watch the video above to get a good example of what is at stake here. The woman in the video above used to have health insurance and then she and her husband were inundated with medical bills … they couldn’t afford everything and under a mountain of debt – they dropped their coverage after she recovered from her 2nd round of breast cancer treatments.
She was diagnosed with a tumor in her kidney and she died because she had a pre-existing condition. If she were able to live till 2014 – insurance companies wouldn’t be able to block her from getting coverage …. but under Mitt Romney’s plan – she wouldn’t qualify. Under Romney’s plan – others like her would go back to what we already had … and under Romney’s plan – others will die too. Insurance companies are the real death panels.
On Sunday – Mitt Romney went on Meet the Press on Sunday for the first time in 3 years as he is trying to stop the hemorrhaging in the polls.
Prior to Meet the Press – Romney’s position on pre-existing conditions was this:
“Governor Romney supports reforms to protect those with pre-existing conditions from being denied access to a health plan while they have continuous coverage.”
On Meet the Press as we shared HERE – he said he wanted to keep the “good parts of Obamacare” and he says very specifically he wants to eliminate pre-existing conditions because that’s one of the “good parts of Obamacare”. Got it? He said that to a HUGE audience and millions of people … see – not all conservatives are completely uncaring.
Scratch that. A few hours later – his campaign reports …. it was all just a big misunderstanding. He really meant to say he supports pre-existing conditions for those who are able to maintain “continuous coverage” which coincidentally is most likely tied to your ability to keep your job. When there was no viewing audience … the Romney campaign told the National Review – a conservative audience HERE:
In reference to how Romney would deal with those with preexisting conditions and young adults who want to remain on their parents’ plans, a Romney aide responded that there had been no change in Romney’s position and that “in a competitive environment, the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for. He was not proposing a federal mandate to require insurance plans to offer those particular features.”
Then another Romney campaign issued Buzzfeed another clarification HERE:
Gov. Romney will ensure that discrimination against individuals with preexisting conditions who maintain continuous coverage is prohibited.”
CONTINUOUS COVERAGE. So – if you lose your job or can’t afford the payments because you’re sitting on a pile of debt … you now have a pre-existing condition the moment your insurance lapses. Insurance companies would be able to block covering you should some horrible disaster like cancer befall you or your wife or god forbid – your child. Actually – in Romney’s plan … if the father lapses on his insurance plan because he loses his job and his insurance along with it …. the kids lose coverage too. And they now can be blocked from having insurance for any pre-existing conditions.
And in Romney’s situation – his own WIFE wouldn’t qualify for insurance but he doesn’t have to worry about paying his medical bills … he’s rich like George and Weezy.
Romney even said this in a speech in May 2011 while talking about his plan HERE:
“If you’ve been insured for 10 years, and you have a heart attack, and you’ve changed jobs, because of that continuous period of insurance, of course you will continue to be covered. If you’ve never had insurance, and you’re age 55, and suddenly you have a heart attack, and now you want to buy insurance – you don’t say to them: ‘Oh, fine, you get it.’ … That doesn’t work very well.”

[...] That’s a lie. It doesn’t. If you lose your job and you’re not covered continuously … under Romney’s plan – insurance companies don’t have to cover you. That’s exactly what the law was like before. More on that HERE. [...]
